Official stock conversation with people in England

British person: Where you from then?
Jenny: America.
British person: Where in America?
Jenny: Near New Orleans in Louisiana.
British person: Is that near California, like?

Anyone have any light to shed on this? I have not picked California at random - that is exactly what they say to me.

    Oh, Jen! California! Where the flim stars are! Isn’t EVERYTHING near California? The only other thing it could be near is New York, where the interesting people are.
